The Liverpool target has been contacted by Bayern Munich which opens up some potential possibilities.

Liverpool target Levi Colwill is currently being courted by Bayern Munich with reports stating that they are in contact with the player.

Colwill is regarded as one of the best young defenders in English football after strong spells at Huddersfield, Brighton and now Chelsea. Only 21, he was a heavily targeted player last summer as there was uncertainty over his future in London which saw Liverpool monitor the player. However, a new deal was signed and he is currently tied down until 2029.

Mauricio Pochettino started Colwill in 20 of the first 27 games before a nasty toe injury suffered in early March ended his season early. Heading into the summer window, Chelsea have changed their manager and already confirmed the signing of centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo, who also plays in his position. That leaves the club with six options in the heart of defence but Trevoh Chalobah has been linked with an exit.

Fortunately, new boss Enzo Maresca will most likely utilise him at left-back as he likes players in that position to slot into a position that resembles centre-back. However, he is still being targeted by Bayern Munich who, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg, are in talks with the player and his camp. He wrote on X: ‘Understand FC Bayern remain in contact with Levi #Colwill and the player‘s camp!

‘This is also because there is still no agreement between Bayern and Leverkusen regarding Jonathan Tah’s transfer. Both clubs are far apart in terms of the transfer fee. Signing #Tah is the highest priority at this stage. But Vincent Kompany has also a very high opinion of the 21-year-old left-footed center-back from FC Chelsea!’.

With Chelsea's potential need to sell in order to meet profit and sustainability rules, it means that the academy product's future is in some doubt, but reports from Fabrizio Romano state Chelsea have no plans to sell Colwill despite interest. He posted on X: "Understand Chelsea position on Levi Colwill remains same as last summer: no plans to sell him. Despite interest from several top clubs, Colwill is again considered important part of #CFC project and a key player for their future."

Given centre-back has been named as a priority of Liverpool this summer, Colwill’s ability to play out from the back, his aerial prowess and vast potential makes him a quality prospect. He could also be a long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk and it is clearly a move that would be a dream addition for Arne Slot.
